About the view

Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Three jagged towers of warm rose and slate-grey surge upward from a broken shoreline, filling the frame with a presence that feels almost architectural. The view of Tre Cime di Lavaredo is captured from low at the water's edge, where a still alpine lake mirrors the peaks so precisely that the image becomes almost symmetrical — rock and reflection folding toward each other across a calm, dusky surface. Low scrub and pale boulders rim the near bank, caught in the last warmth of a fading sunset. The sky above swirls with coral, peach and soft lavender, those same colors dissolving into the water below, turning the whole canvas into a wash of rose-gold light.

The history

Tre Cime di Lavaredo — three distinct summits standing apart from the surrounding ridgeline in the Sexten Dolomites — are among the most recognized mountain formations in the Alps. They sit near the border of the South Tyrol and Veneto regions, protected within the Tre Cime Nature Park, which connects to the broader Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site designated in 2009. The peaks became a landmark of early alpine climbing in the nineteenth century and have drawn mountaineers and walkers ever since.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Dolomites finds a home on your wall.
