About the view

Miraflores Lighthouse Coastal Cliff

The scene opens from just below the clifftop, looking up toward the Miraflores Lighthouse as the sun sinks behind it into a haze of deep peach and amber. The entire sky is suffused with that particular burnt-orange glow that belongs only to Pacific sunsets, with the solar disc still visible, pale and soft, just behind the tower. The lighthouse itself rises as a dark silhouette against the warmth — its banded upper section and lantern room crisp against the dissolving light. Broad-canopied trees stand in scattered silhouette along the ridge, and the dark green cliff face slopes steeply down toward a sea that shimmers in muted rose and copper. A paraglider hangs in the upper left, a small, perfect shape suspended between cliff and sky.

The history & when to go

The Miraflores Lighthouse has guided vessels navigating the coastal waters off Lima since its construction in 1900, marking one of the more dramatic stretches of South America's Pacific shoreline. The clifftop district around it has long served as a gathering point for the city, a place where Lima's residents come to watch the sky change over the water. The lighthouse remains an active navigational aid and a recognized landmark along the Miraflores malecón.

The view is at its most vivid between December and April, when Lima's coastal mist lifts and the sunset colors intensify across an open, unhazy sky.

A striped lighthouse crowns a green coastal cliff above the Pacific, glowing amber as the sun melts into a coral horizon. This watercolor study of the Miraflores lighthouse in Lima captures that hush of dusk in warm peach, deep shadow, and ember-lit sky.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Lima finds a home on your wall.
