About the view

Miraflores Coastal Cliffs Shoreline

The view sweeps southward along the Miraflores coastal cliffs from high above Lima, tracing a shoreline that curves into pale coastal haze. Warm ochre and rust bluffs drop sharply from lush green terraces, with a coastal road threading the narrow strip between cliff base and beach. The Pacific fills the right half of the composition in vivid layers — turquoise shallows giving way to deeper blue-green swells, white foam tracing the waterline below. High-rises cluster along the clifftop to the upper left, their pale facades catching bright midday light, while two paragliders drift against an open, saturated sky. The greens of the clifftop grounds, the burnt earth of the bluffs, and the electric teal of the ocean pull against each other in bold, sun-drenched contrast.

The history & when to go

The Miraflores cliffs are one of Lima's defining geographic features, a continuous escarpment rising roughly 70 to 80 meters above the Pacific that runs through the city's most visited district. Miraflores developed through the twentieth century as a residential and commercial hub, and the clifftop area has been shaped over the decades into parks and public spaces that make this dramatic coastal edge accessible to residents and visitors alike. The coastal road running below the cliffs connects Lima's beaches and remains central to the district's identity.

The scene is at its most vivid during Lima's summer months, from December through March, when the marine layer clears and the Pacific takes on the striking turquoise intensity captured here.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Lima finds a home on your wall.
