About the view

Miraflores Clifftop Chinese Pagoda

From a slightly elevated vantage along the clifftop promenade, the scene sweeps out over a lush green headland jutting into the Pacific. The Chinese pagoda in Miraflores anchors the right side of the composition, its tiered red roof and lacquered columns glowing in warm afternoon light against a pale, luminous sky. Tall palms cluster to the left, their feathery crowns backlit in amber and deep green. A graceful arched footbridge curves below them in soft white, leading the eye toward the cliff's edge. Beyond, the ocean opens in wide bands of teal and seafoam, fading toward distant coastal hills barely visible through the haze. The foreground is framed by a red-railed fence that ties the warm tones together, giving the whole scene a layered, almost dreamy depth.

The history & when to go

The pagoda is a gift from Lima's Chinese community, reflecting the deep-rooted presence of Chinese culture in Peru — one of the largest such communities in Latin America, with roots going back to the nineteenth century. Set on the Miraflores cliffs, it has become one of the district's most recognized landmarks, a meeting point between two cultures perched above the sea.

The view is at its richest in the late afternoon, when the low Pacific sun burns through the coastal mist and saturates every color from the red columns to the turquoise water below.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Lima finds a home on your wall.
