About the view

Beirut Corniche Seaside Promenade

The view stretches along the Beirut Corniche at golden hour, the wide pedestrian walkway curving away into the distance with the city's skyline dissolving into a pale, hazy sky beyond. Tall palms line the right side of the frame, their fronds lit amber and copper by low evening sun, casting long shadows across the pale pavement. To the left, a warm-toned balustrade runs the length of the scene, waves churning white against dark rocks below. The Mediterranean glows in deep teals and navy, its surface catching the last warm light, while the whole composition pulls the eye forward along that sweeping coastal arc — unhurried, luminous, alive.

The history & when to go

The Corniche has been Beirut's most beloved public walkway for generations, tracing the western and northern edges of the city along the seafront. Stretching roughly five kilometers, it became the social spine of the capital through the twentieth century, a place where the rhythms of daily life — morning runners, evening strollers, fishermen — have continued through decades of dramatic change. It remains one of the few spaces in the city that belongs equally to everyone, a rare and enduring constant in a place that has reinvented itself again and again.

The golden hour light captured here is at its richest in the late afternoon from autumn through early spring, when the sun drops toward the sea and the palms glow against a soft, pastel sky.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Beirut finds a home on your wall.
