The west coast holds a particular quality of light — soft, silvered, arriving sideways off the Atlantic — that dissolves the boundary between sea and sky and turns the bogland a dozen shades of amber and umber at once. Stone walls wander across hillsides without apparent purpose, villages hug harbor mouths, and everything feels slightly blurred at the edges, as though the rain never quite stops.
