About the view

Taxco Hidden Waterfall Pool

A slender cascade spills over pale, mineral-streaked rock and drops into a pool of luminous emerald green, its surface rippling outward in soft arcs of turquoise and jade. The view is intimate — as though you have stepped around a bend in a narrow gorge and caught this hidden waterfall pool in Taxco at its most undisturbed. Warm amber and rust-toned boulders crowd the left foreground, their sculpted, rounded forms catching a dappled light that filters down through a dense canopy overhead. That canopy fills the upper register with layered greens, from deep forest shadow to bright, sun-lit lime, framing the scene like a living cathedral. The waterfall itself is the lightest point in the composition, a cool blue-white against all that warmth, drawing the eye straight to the heart of the image.

The history & when to go

The arroyos and gorges that thread through the hills surrounding Taxco have long sheltered pools fed by seasonal rains and underground springs. The region's rugged terrain — carved over millennia by water cutting through the mountains of the Sierra Madre del Sur — creates natural basins where water collects, cools, and clears. These spots have been gathering places for local communities for generations, valued as relief from the high-altitude heat and celebrated as proof that the landscape holds as much wonder as the town above.

The pools are at their most vivid from late spring through early summer, when rainfall is beginning to recharge the streams but the canopy is still bright and open enough to let shafts of light reach the water.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Taxco finds a home on your wall.
