San Blas Tiny Palm Island
From high above the Caribbean, a tiny island sits alone at the center of the canvas like a jewel dropped into open water. Seen from an aerial vantage, the scene spreads outward in rings of color — vivid electric turquoise close to the shore, deepening to cobalt and violet as the sea reaches toward the horizon. A crown of tall palms clusters at the island's heart, their dark silhouettes the only vertical lines in an otherwise horizontal world. The sliver of pale shore curving around them catches a last blush of warmth. Above, the sky ignites in layers of coral, rose and amber, wide streaks of cloud pulling the eye across the upper third of the composition and reflecting their glow down into the water below. Beneath the shallows, the soft dark shapes of a reef ripple through the turquoise like shadows of clouds.
The history & when to go
San Blas Tiny Palm Island is one of the smallest inhabited and uninhabited islets within the Guna Yala territory, a region along Panama's Caribbean coast that has been governed autonomously by the Guna people for generations. The Guna successfully secured formal recognition of their territorial rights from the Panamanian government in 1938, making Guna Yala one of the earliest and most enduring examples of indigenous self-governance in the Americas.
Sunset is the hour this view belongs to, when the sky above the archipelago fills with color and the shallow reef water catches every shade at once.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.
I hope a little piece of San Blas Islands finds a home on your wall.
