About the view

Mykonos Little Venice Waterfront

The view settles at the water's edge of Little Venice, looking across a calm harbor toward the cluster of white cubic buildings that crowd right up to the shoreline in Mykonos. Three traditional fishing boats are moored along the quay in the foreground, their hulls a vivid deep red trimmed with gold and blue, tall bare masts cutting upward into a clear pale sky. Dominating the lower right, a white pelican stands on the worn stone dock with an air of complete ownership, its soft plumage catching the cool morning light. Across the water, a low amber hill rises gently behind the town, and the sea shifts between teal and soft aquamarine as it reflects the open sky above.

The history & when to go

Little Venice is the name given to the western edge of Mykonos Town, where a row of houses and former sea captains' residences were built directly over the water, their balconies cantilevered above the Aegean. The neighborhood developed during a period when the island prospered through trade and seafaring, and its distinctive waterfront architecture has made it one of the most recognized scenes in the Greek islands. The island's resident pelican, a figure closely tied to local identity, has been a symbol of Mykonos for decades.

Morning is the finest time to stand on this quay, when the harbor is still and the light is gentle before the day's wind picks up.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Mykonos finds a home on your wall.
