About the view

Armenistis Lighthouse Mykonos Cliffs

The view looks up from a wildflower-covered hillside toward the Armenistis Lighthouse on Mykonos's northwestern tip, the tower rising pale and slender against a sky torn open by a dramatic sunset. Billowing clouds shift from deep violet on the left to amber and coral on the right, and the lantern room already glows, its warm yellow light answering the fading warmth of the horizon. Below the tower, a low keeper's building catches the same peachy glow, surrounded by a dry-stacked stone wall. In the foreground, clusters of yellow blooms and vivid red flowers spill across the slope, their colors almost electric against the deep Aegean blue that stretches to distant silhouetted islands.

The history & when to go

Armenistis Lighthouse has guided vessels through the treacherous currents of the Aegean for well over a century, standing at one of the most exposed points of the island. Mykonos sits at a crossroads of Cycladic sea routes, and the headland where the lighthouse stands has long been a critical waypoint for ships navigating these waters. The structure is considered one of the landmark features of the island's north-western coastline and remains an active navigational aid today.

Late spring brings the wildflowers to their peak and keeps the skies theatrical at dusk — an ideal combination for experiencing this clifftop view firsthand.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Mykonos finds a home on your wall.
