About the view

Koruldi Lakes Mountain Reflection

A sweep of vivid green meadow leads the eye toward a still alpine lake, its glassy surface holding a near-perfect mirror of everything above. The Koruldi Lakes panorama looks outward from the high pastures above Mestia toward a wide arc of jagged, snow-capped peaks that fill the upper half of the composition. The summits shift from deep slate and charcoal at their rocky faces to bright white where snow gathers in the folds, while the rolling hills between lake and mountain glow in saturated emerald. Small clusters of pale pink wildflowers dot the near shore, and a single wisp of cloud drifts against a bold, clear blue sky. The reflection below repeats every peak and every shade of green in the darkened tones of deep water, creating a near-symmetrical image that feels both vast and perfectly calm.

The history & when to go

The Koruldi Lakes are a group of small glacial lakes sitting at roughly 2,740 metres above sea level in the Greater Caucasus range. They have long been a destination for those making their way into the Svaneti highlands, a region of Georgia that has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years. The surrounding landscape falls within the Upper Svaneti UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its exceptional medieval villages and tower-houses.

Summer brings rich color to these meadows, when the grasses are at their fullest and the snowline has retreated to sharpen the contrast between green and white.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Mestia finds a home on your wall.
