About the view

West Point Lighthouse Red Cliffs

The view looks north along the western shore of Prince Edward Island, from a clifftop vantage where the land drops sharply into churning teal water below. The West Point Lighthouse rises at the cliff's edge — bold red and white bands catching the last warmth of a late-day sun — while the sky above softens into streaks of lavender and pale gold. Warm russet earth dominates the composition, the cliff face glowing almost amber where the light rakes across it. In the foreground, wild coastal grasses bend in an unseen breeze, threaded through with clusters of small white and blush flowers. The waves far below are edged with white foam, and the distant shoreline fades into a quiet haze of blue-grey.

The history & when to go

West Point Lighthouse has guided ships through the waters off Prince Edward Island's southwestern tip since 1875. It is the tallest lighthouse on Prince Edward Island, and the distinctive black horizontal stripes that wrap its tower set it apart from any other on the Atlantic coast. The keeper's quarters were converted into a small inn and museum, giving the site a lived-in character that most coastal towers never retain.

The low evening light of midsummer turns those red cliffs into something close to fire.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Prince Edward Island finds a home on your wall.
