About the view

Supertree Grove Sunset Singapore

The view looks up from ground level through the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay, catching the sun at the precise moment it drops to the horizon. The towering vertical structures fan outward at their crowns, draped in cascading deep greens and edged with warm amber where the low light catches them. A burst of coral and crimson foliage fills the right-hand side, balancing the cool blue-grey sky above. Through the gap between two of the tallest forms, a familiar tiered silhouette rises in the middle distance, rendered in soft lavender and gold. The composition pulls the eye straight to that burning point of sunlight, and everything — the branching silhouettes above, the dense tropical growth below — radiates outward from it.

The history & when to go

The Supertree Grove opened in 2012 as the centrepiece of Gardens by the Bay, Singapore's 101-hectare waterfront garden reclaimed from the sea. The Supertrees — eighteen tree-like vertical structures ranging from 25 to 50 metres tall — function as working horticultural and environmental features, housing plants on their exterior frameworks and serving roles in energy generation and rainwater collection. They are connected at height by the OCBC Skyway, a walkway that offers elevated views across the Bay and toward the city skyline.

Sunset draws the longest shadows and the richest colours across the Grove, making early evening the ideal time to experience this view in person.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Gardens by the Bay finds a home on your wall.
