About the view

Supertree Grove Night Illumination

The view looks up from ground level inside the Supertree Grove, the towering structures rising dramatically overhead against a deep, near-black sky. The scene is drenched in electric color — cool cobalt blue on the left giving way to vivid magenta and violet toward the center, with a low amber glow along the horizon suggesting the last warmth of dusk dissolving behind the canopy line. Each structure fans outward at its crown like an enormous opened bloom, threaded with tiny points of light that scatter across the composition like scattered stars. The scale feels extraordinary from this upward angle, the trunks massive and close, their illuminated surfaces swirling with reflected color against the surrounding dark.

The history & when to go

Gardens by the Bay opened in 2012 on reclaimed land in Singapore's Marina Bay area, and the Supertree Grove has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Southeast Asia. The structures range in height and are designed to function as vertical gardens, supporting a variety of plants across their exteriors. Each evening, the Grove comes alive during the Garden Rhapsody light and sound show, a free nightly event that has drawn visitors from around the world.

The illumination display runs twice each evening, and the later of the two shows rewards visitors with a smaller crowd and more space to enjoy the colors in person.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.
