About the view

Edgartown Lighthouse Martha's Vineyard

A sandy path draws the eye straight toward Edgartown Lighthouse, the white tower rising calm and unhurried against a deep summer blue. Billowing clouds stack dramatically behind it, their creamy whites echoing the tower's pale body, while the dark lantern room caps the composition with quiet authority. On either side of the path, clouds of soft pink blooms spill forward, their loose petals catching the midday light in blush and rose. Beyond the lighthouse, the harbor opens into layered bands of turquoise and teal, with a low green shoreline just visible in the distance. The whole scene breathes — warm sand underfoot, the sea stretching wide, the sky enormous overhead.

The history

Edgartown Lighthouse stands at the entrance to Edgartown Harbor on Martha's Vineyard, marking the channel that generations of fishermen and sailors have navigated. The current lighthouse was relocated to its present site in the mid-twentieth century and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It remains an active aid to navigation managed by the Martha's Vineyard Museum, and the surrounding beach is managed by the Martha's Vineyard Museum, which offers guided access to the tower during the warmer months.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Martha's Vineyard finds a home on your wall.
