About the view

Haeundae Coastal Tram Line

Two vintage tram cars trace the Haeundae Coastal Tram Line along a narrow ribbon of track perched between the sea and a wild, grassy hillside. The view looks outward and slightly downward, as though you are standing on the slope above, watching the cars move in gentle procession toward the horizon. The setting sun has turned the ocean into hammered gold and pale coral, its reflection stretching in a long bright column across the water. Above, the sky softens into washes of lavender and peach, with loose clouds catching the last orange heat at their edges. A broad, wind-shaped tree leans from the right, its dark canopy framing the scene, while the hillside grasses glow amber in the low light. A low headland rises quietly in the distance, dissolving into the haze.

The history

The Haeundae Coastal Tram began operating in 2020, running a short route along the eastern coast of Busan between Mipo and Songjeong. It was built to follow the path of a railway that had long since closed, turning a forgotten industrial corridor into a slow, scenic journey above the East Sea. The windowed cars carry passengers past beaches, rocky outcrops and coastal forest, offering unbroken sea views for much of the route.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Busan finds a home on your wall.
