Straddling the equator and stacked with altitude, Ecuador holds an almost impossible range of worlds — Andean páramo shrouded in permanent cloud, Pacific shoreline dissolving into haze, and the Amazon basin pulsing with color just beyond the mountain wall. The quality of light shifts with every thousand meters of elevation, never quite settling.
