About the view

Pileh Lagoon Longtail Boat

A single longtail boat floats at the heart of Pileh Lagoon, its honey-colored hull vivid against water that glows an almost unreal turquoise. The view is taken from water level, looking inward toward where two great walls of dark, vegetation-crowned rock close in on either side, their sheer faces streaked in deep grey and mossy green. A gap between the cliffs opens just enough to reveal a slip of bright blue sky and a single white cloud. The light feels midday-sharp, saturating every surface — the luminous teal of the shallows, the dense emerald canopy spilling over the clifftops, the red and blue garlands tied at the boat's prow catching the sun like a small celebration.

The history & when to go

Pileh Lagoon is a semi-enclosed saltwater lagoon enclosed within the cliffs of Phi Phi Leh, the smaller and uninhabited of the two main Phi Phi Islands. Because Phi Phi Leh has no permanent residents, the lagoon has remained largely sheltered from development. The longtail boat — slender, high-prowed, and instantly recognizable across Thai coastal waters — has carried fishermen and travelers through these passages for generations, and remains the primary way visitors reach the lagoon today.

The colors in this watercolor-style canvas are truest to life on calm mornings, when the water is still enough to reflect the cliffs and the turquoise deepens before the afternoon haze sets in.

Phi Phi Serenity Fills Your Space – Pileh Lagoon Longtail Boat Phi Phi Islands · Gallery Canvas

Turquoise water glows between sheer limestone cliffs in the sheltered lagoon of Phi Phi Islands, a wooden longtail boat drifting quietly in the stillness. This watercolor study of Pileh Lagoon captures that luminous jade and teal light against ancient grey rock, hushed and dreamlike.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Phi Phi Islands finds a home on your wall.
