About the view

La Paz Waterfall Gardens

A slender cascade drops through a corridor of layered jungle green at La Paz Waterfall Gardens, the white ribbon of falling water catching the soft, diffused light that filters through a dense canopy above. The view is framed by broad, overlapping leaves and hanging vines on either side, channeling the eye straight to the falls. A small wooden footbridge crosses the rocky stream below, its warm brown tones sitting quietly against the cool blues and rushing white of the water. Rounded boulders crowd the streambed, slick and dark, while every surface beyond them dissolves into an unbroken wash of deep emerald, lime and sage.

The history

La Paz Waterfall Gardens is a nature reserve and wildlife sanctuary located along the slopes of the Poás Volcano in Costa Rica's Central Highlands. The park is built around a series of waterfalls on the La Paz River and is recognized as one of the most visited wildlife attractions in the country. It houses rescue and exhibit programs for native wildlife alongside its trail system, which winds through cloud forest to viewpoints above and beside each of the falls.
