About the view

Lekki Conservation Centre Canopy Walk

The view stretches straight ahead from the bridge's deck, drawing the eye along taut rope rails and suspension cables that converge on a distant tower at the horizon. This is the Lekki Conservation Centre Canopy Walk, and the perspective is unmistakably from the walkway itself — hovering above a dense, rolling sea of deep greens that fills every corner of the frame. Overhanging leaves frame the upper edges in rich emerald, while billowing clouds catch the midday brightness against a soft blue sky. The warm-toned ropes glow against the cooler canopy below, and the whole composition hums with layered greens: jade, forest, moss, shadow.

The history & when to go

The Lekki Conservation Centre is a protected wetland reserve on the Lekki Peninsula, managed by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation. Spanning 78 hectares, it shelters a wide variety of wildlife within one of Africa's prominent urban nature reserves. The canopy walkway, the longest canopy walkway in Africa, runs above the treetops and gives visitors a sweeping aerial perspective over the reserve's forest and wetland habitat. It has become one of Lagos's most distinctive natural landmarks.

The walkway is most atmospheric in the dry season, roughly November through March, when the sky clears and the canopy glows at its brightest beneath steady sunlight.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Lagos finds a home on your wall.
