About the view

Geneva Lighthouse Rocky Jetty

A slender white lighthouse stands at the tip of a rocky jetty reaching into Lake Geneva, its lantern already glowing softly against a sky that has dissolved into layers of peach, rose and pale lilac. The view is taken from low along the jetty, where dark tumbled rocks lead the eye in a long diagonal toward the tower — a composition that feels both intimate and vast. The still water on either side mirrors that warm flush of color, and a single swan drifts silently near the lighthouse base, a small white accent in an expanse of reflected pink. Beyond the tower, a low ridge of blue-grey hills fades into the distance, giving the whole scene a rare, held-breath quality just after sunset.

The history & when to go

The lighthouse at the end of the Jetée des Pâquis has guided vessels on Lake Geneva for well over a century and is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Geneva waterfront. The jetty itself extends into the lake near the point where the Rhône begins its outflow, making this a genuinely significant spot in the city's geography. The lighthouse and its pier are beloved by locals and visitors alike as a place to mark the transitions of the day.

For this view in person, the last light of a clear evening in autumn or early spring offers skies closest to what you see here, when the air is cool and the lake lies perfectly calm.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Geneva finds a home on your wall.
