About the view

Eze Church Clock Tower

The view looks down from the heights of Eze, the warm amber tower of the village church rising confidently against an expanse of blue Mediterranean below. A blue clock face punctuates the tower's façade, catching the low golden light of early morning or late afternoon, while the domed lantern at its crown reaches toward a pale, hazy sky. To the right, a densely wooded hillside tumbles down toward the coast, scattered with terracotta rooftops half-hidden in deep green foliage. The foreground spills across a tight cluster of village rooftops, their curved tiles glowing burnt orange and rust. Distant headlands dissolve softly into sea mist on the horizon, giving the whole composition a quiet, suspended quality.

The history & when to go

The church that anchors this scene, known as the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, dates in its present form to the eighteenth century and stands as the spiritual heart of the village. Eze has been a place of worship and settlement for centuries, and the church's prominent tower has long served as a landmark visible from the coast far below. Its façade faces the narrow lanes of the old village, while its bell tower commands views that stretch toward Monaco and the Italian border.

Late afternoon is when this particular angle earns its full warmth, the low sun turning every warm stone surface to gold before the light fades into the sea.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Eze finds a home on your wall.
