About the view

Coron Twin Lagoon Karst

Seen from high above, Coron's Twin Lagoon reveals itself as a mosaic of impossible blues — deep cobalt pooling at the center, bleeding outward into electric turquoise where the water grows shallow along the rocky edges. Jagged karst towers rise from the sea in clusters, their flanks draped in dense, dark green canopy that presses right down to the waterline. The aerial perspective stretches the scene wide, showing how the lagoons thread between the formations in long, luminous channels, with tiny long-tail boats leaving pale wakes across the surface. The palette shifts constantly — midnight blue to aquamarine to a near-white fringe at every rocky shore — giving the whole composition a jeweled, layered quality that feels almost impossible to look away from.

The history & when to go

Twin Lagoon sits within the Coron Island Natural Biotic Area, a protected territory recognized for both its ecological significance and its cultural importance to the Tagbanua people, the indigenous community who have inhabited Coron Island for centuries and continue to hold ancestral domain rights over much of it. The lagoons are connected by a narrow passage through the karst, and the dramatic difference in water temperature between the inner and outer lagoon has made the site one of the most visited in the Palawan region.

The vivid color contrast between lagoons is sharpest in the dry season, roughly November through May, when settled skies and calm water let the turquoise gradients show at their clearest.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Coron finds a home on your wall.
