About the view

Coron Limestone Karst Underwater

The view catches the moment where world splits in two — warm, rust-toned rock formations crowding the upper frame, their rough and rounded surfaces catching soft light before dropping away into something extraordinary below. Beneath what reads as a waterline, the same formations continue downward as tall, sculpted columns, their faces bleached to pale aqua and white where the water wraps around them. The teal is almost electric, shifting from deep jewel blue in the shadows to a bright, luminous turquoise where light filters through. The composition is perfectly bisected, the rugged warmth above giving way to cool, glassy stillness below, as if Coron is revealing both of its selves at once.

The history

The limestone karst formations of Coron are part of the broader Calamian archipelago in Palawan province, a region recognized for its exceptional biodiversity and geological character. The waters around Coron are also known for a significant collection of Japanese shipwrecks from the Second World War, which now serve as some of the most celebrated wreck dive sites in Southeast Asia. The area falls within a protected seascape, and the underwater karst walls visible in scenes like this one draw divers and snorkelers from around the world.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Coron finds a home on your wall.
