About the view

Bangalore Palace Grounds

Warm golden light falls across the turreted facade of Bangalore Palace, viewed from ground level along a curving terrace path that draws the eye straight to the heart of the composition. The towers rise against a clear, saturated blue sky, their warm stone surfaces catching the afternoon sun in shades of amber and honey. Climbing greenery softens the battlements and arched windows, while neatly shaped hedges and bursts of vivid pink flowering shrubs line the path on either side. The overall palette moves from sun-baked ochre at the centre to deep, lush greens at the edges, giving the scene an almost theatrical depth.

The history & when to go

Bangalore Palace was completed in 1878 and was modeled on Windsor Castle in England, a project commissioned by the then-ruler of the princely state of Mysore. It served as a royal residence and remains in the possession of the Mysore royal family today. Over the decades its grounds have become one of the city's most recognized landmarks, drawing visitors for both the architecture and the expansive gardens that surround it. The palace has also hosted large public events and cultural gatherings that have made it a living part of Bangalore's civic life.

The grounds are especially rewarding in the cooler morning hours, when the light is softest and the gardens at their most vivid before the midday heat sets in.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Bangalore finds a home on your wall.
