About the view

Lalbagh Glass House

The view stretches down a formal garden path toward the Lalbagh Glass House at the golden hour, when the sky above Bangalore melts into peach and amber. A wide central border of blooms — deep crimson, hot pink, burnt orange and soft yellow — draws the eye straight to the structure's soaring arched facade, its latticed ironwork and great curved window glowing against the warmth of the fading light. Tall trees frame either side in deep silhouette, anchoring the composition and letting that luminous sky breathe above the roofline. The palette moves from the vivid, jewel-rich foreground flowers through the pale gold of the worn path to the soft blush and cream of the building itself, everything suffused in the kind of light that makes a familiar place feel briefly miraculous.

The history & when to go

The Glass House was inspired by London's Crystal Palace and constructed in the late nineteenth century under the direction of the British administration that oversaw Lalbagh at the time. It remains the centrepiece of Lalbagh's famous flower shows, held twice a year to mark Republic Day and Independence Day. Those shows draw enormous crowds and have been a Bangalore tradition for decades.

Early mornings on any ordinary day offer the most tranquil experience, when the garden opens at 6 AM and the light across the flower beds is at its softest and most golden.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.
