Getting Around
Krabi International Airport serves the region with connections to Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. Within the province, songthaews, longtail boats, and hired tuk-tuks are the primary ways to move between town, beaches, and jungle interiors.
⚖️
Cash or Card
Cash remains king in Krabi, particularly at markets, ferry piers, street stalls, and smaller guesthouses where cards are rarely accepted. Higher-end resorts and restaurants in Ao Nang and Railay will process cards, but a healthy supply of Thai Baht notes prevents awkward moments.
☁️
Good to Know
Removing shoes before entering temples and private homes is non-negotiable, and modest clothing covering shoulders and knees is expected at any sacred site including Tiger Cave Temple. Pointing feet toward people or Buddha images is considered deeply disrespectful, even when sitting casually on a floor or boat.
🏧
ATMs
ATMs are reliably found along Maharat Road in Krabi Town and in the Ao Nang tourist strip, with most major Thai banks represented including Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn, and SCB. Foreign card fees at Thai ATMs typically include both a local machine charge of around 220 THB and the traveller's own bank foreign transaction fee.
💳
Currency
The Thai Baht (THB) is the only accepted currency throughout Krabi Province, and attempts to pay in foreign notes will be politely but firmly declined almost everywhere. Exchange rates in town are reasonable, with in-town exchange booths typically offering better rates than those at the airport or large resort desks.
🔌
Plugs
Thailand uses Type A, B, and C outlets at 220V and 50Hz. A universal travel adapter is recommended as socket types vary even within the same guesthouse.
🛡️
Safety
Krabi is generally very safe for travellers, but rip currents at beach coves during monsoon season are a genuine hazard and red flag warnings should always be respected without exception. Renting a motorbike on unfamiliar roads carries real risk, and travel insurance that covers activities and medical evacuation is strongly advised.

Airports
Krabi International Airport (KBV) sits approximately 15 kilometres northeast of Krabi Town and handles both domestic routes from Bangkok and international connections across Asia. Phuket International Airport (HKT) roughly 170 kilometres north is an alternative hub with broader global connections and is reachable by shared minivan.
