About the view

Anse Source d'Argent Beach

A giant tortoise lumbers across pale sand at Anse Source d'Argent, pausing just long enough to hold the viewer's gaze. The scene is flooded with midday light — the kind that turns shallow water into layered washes of turquoise and aquamarine, with a deeper teal pressing in from the lagoon beyond. Warm rose-toned boulders rise dramatically to the right, their weathered faces catching full sun while dense green canopy spills over them from above. The composition places the tortoise squarely in the foreground, its ancient shell rendered in rich amber and umber, the white beach stretching wide on either side and a hazy green hillside softening the horizon behind.

The history & when to go

Anse Source d'Argent has a protected status within a nature reserve on La Digue, and the giant tortoises that are kept in an enclosure within the estate are Aldabra giant tortoises, one of the largest tortoise species on earth. The Aldabra population is the largest remaining in the world, and a group has been resident on La Digue for generations. The beach itself has appeared in countless films and travel features, long considered among the most photographed in the world.

The light here is most luminous in the morning hours, when the sun is low enough to set the boulders glowing and the water shifts through its full range of color.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Seychelles finds a home on your wall.
