About the view

Little Venice Waterfront Cafe

The scene opens along the Little Venice waterfront in Mykonos, viewed from the edge of a sun-drenched terrace where white chairs and wooden tables sit quietly beside the water. A warm cobblestone promenade stretches toward the right, anchored by a tall white building whose balconies and shuttered windows catch the full force of midday light. Beyond the terrace, the Aegean glows in layered bands of turquoise and deep aquamarine, fading into a horizon of pure, unbroken blue. Across the water, a loose cluster of warm-toned and terracotta-roofed buildings curves gently around the bay, soft and hazy in the distance. The palette is vivid but easy — bleached whites, sea greens, amber stone — the kind of light that feels generous rather than harsh.

The history & when to go

Little Venice is one of the most recognized corners of Mykonos, a row of buildings constructed so close to the sea that the Aegean laps directly at their foundations. The neighborhood takes its name from the way its waterfront architecture appears to rise straight out of the water, drawing comparisons to the Italian city. It developed as a residential and commercial quarter and over time became central to Mykonos Town, known locally as Chora.

Late afternoon is when the light along this waterfront turns especially golden, warming the white facades and making the water seem almost luminous.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Mykonos finds a home on your wall.
