Pont de Pierre at Dusk
The view stretches along the Garonne from the riverbank, looking down the full length of Pont de Pierre as dusk settles over Bordeaux. Seventeen arches curve gracefully across the water, their warm amber tones deepening in the fading light. Ornate lampposts line the bridge in a receding row, their dark silhouettes sharpening against a sky that shifts from soft peach at the horizon to a pale, hazy blue overhead. The river below catches it all — the amber glow, the arch reflections, the last blush of evening — while dense green foliage crowds the near bank, anchoring the composition and pulling the eye toward that long, luminous crossing.
The history & when to go
Pont de Pierre was completed in 1822, making it the first bridge to span the Garonne at Bordeaux. Napoleon Bonaparte ordered its construction, and the bridge served the city for well over a century before additional crossings were built. Its seventeen arches are said to correspond to the number of letters in Napoleon Bonaparte's name, though the design was ultimately practical as much as symbolic. Today it remains one of the most recognized and beloved landmarks in southwestern France, central to the city's riverside identity.
The bridge glows most intensely in the half-hour before and after sunset, when the warm light of the western sky turns the warm stone a deep, burnished gold.

I hope a little piece of Bordeaux finds a home on your wall.
