About the view

Tropical Sunset Palm Beach

Tall palms sweep across the upper right of the scene, their feathered fronds catching the last warmth of a setting sun. The view looks westward from the shoreline of Boracay, the horizon glowing a soft, luminous gold where the sun sits low and full against a sky that shifts from deep cobalt at the top through hazy aquamarine down to a halo of pale yellow light. Wispy clouds drift across the middle distance, lit from below in cream and silver. The composition pulls the eye in two directions at once — outward toward the open horizon and upward into the canopy of green overhead — giving the whole scene a feeling of being held somewhere beautifully between earth and sky.

The history & when to go

Boracay's western shore has long been known as one of the finest places in Southeast Asia to watch the sun go down. The island, stretching roughly seven kilometers in length, rose to international prominence through the 1980s and 1990s as travelers discovered its unusually fine white sand and calm coastal waters. In 2018, the Philippine government temporarily closed the island to allow for environmental rehabilitation, a measure widely credited with restoring water quality and protecting the coastline for future generations.

The western beach faces directly into the late-afternoon sun, making the hour before sunset the most rewarding time to take in a view like this one in person.

Behind the Passport

Explore the world, one canvas at a time.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I grew up in Ohio dreaming about the places on the map I hadn't seen yet, so I started The Painted Passport to turn real photos of those places into watercolor canvas prints. There are 570+ destinations so far, with new ones added every week.

I hope a little piece of Boracay finds a home on your wall.
