The reef runs parallel to a coastline of mangrove and caye, its shallows cycling through every shade of green and blue that tropical water allows. Inland, the jungle closes in — dense, humid, and interrupted by Maya temples whose limestone faces are slowly being reclaimed by fig roots and the particular patience of the forest.
