Serengeti, Tanzania | 'Where the Land Runs Forever'
The Serengeti is one of those rare places that rewrites a person the moment they arrive. Stretching across nearly 15,000 square kilometers of golden savanna, acacia woodland, and kopje-studded plains, it carries a geological stillness that feels older than memory. The light here is extraordinary - at dawn it arrives in long copper ribbons across the grass, and by late afternoon it turns the whole landscape to molten amber. This is the cradle of the Great Migration, one of the last truly wild spectacles on earth, and the ground itself holds human origins: Olduvai Gorge, just beyond the park's southern edge, is where some of our earliest ancestors left their bones in the volcanic soil.
A watercolor palette for the Serengeti begins with deep sienna and warm ochre for the dry-season grass, layered with soft sage and dusty olive where the acacia canopy filters the midday heat. Storm clouds rolling in from the west bring bruised violet and slate blue to the horizon, while the watering holes at dusk mirror everything in pale gold and rose. It is a palette that rewards restraint - the land's beauty lies in its vast, breathing openness, and too many colors would only crowd it.
