Renaissance architecture folds into Roman ruins, silk-weaving history whispers through narrow passages called traboules, and the hills of Fourviere and Croix-Rousse frame the skyline with a kind of unhurried grandeur. The light here arrives golden in the morning and lingers in warm amber tones over the terracotta rooftops, making the old city glow like something painted rather than built.
