Copenhagen carries itself with a quiet confidence that takes hold the moment you arrive. The city sits low along the water, its copper spires and candy-colored canal houses reflecting in a harbor that seems to hold the sky. There is a particular quality of northern light here, soft and long in summer, silver and intimate in winter, that makes every streetside moment feel considered. Centuries of seafaring history, royal pageantry, and a fiercely progressive spirit are woven into streets where bikes outnumber cars and design is treated as something close to a civic religion.
A Copenhagen watercolor palette begins with the faded ochres and brick reds of Nyhavn, tempered by the chalky grey-blue of the sky on an overcast afternoon.
