ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES | “Where the Desert Meets the Sea”

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and the most ambitious city-building project of the modern era — a place where extraordinary wealth, a deep Bedouin identity, and an almost philosophical commitment to the spectacular have produced a skyline and a cultural landscape unlike anything else on earth. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with its 82 domes and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet, is the most awe-inspiring interior in the Gulf. Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi, its latticed dome filtering Saadiyat sunlight into a thousand moving beams, is the most beautiful new museum building in the world. And 160 kilometers south, the 300-meter dunes of the Liwa Desert reach toward the Empty Quarter — the same desert landscape that shaped the Bedouin civilization the towers were built upon.

The colors here are warm and extraordinary: white marble, desert gold, and the deep Arabian Gulf blue at the hour when the mosque’s reflective pools illuminate the domes from below. This artwork captures the grandeur, the light, and the layered beauty of a city still writing its own story at full scale.

Bathed in the soft, warm glow of a twilight sky, this rugged landscape feels both timeless and profoundly still. It inspires a deep appreciation for the quiet, enduring power of the natural world.
